Le Chéile Folk Trio + Tad & Wyn
Location:St Werburgh’s Church
Monday 23 May, 2016 - 13.00
LE CHÉILE is a folk trio, from Ireland, Wales and Scotland. The trio is a meeting of traditional music and influences from three distinct, yet interconnected traditions. Each member, in their own way, celebrates the distinctive musical vernaculars of their home regions. Le Chéile use traditional folk tunes blended with lyrical and dynamic string textures in their arrangements of haunting ballads and plangent love songs in Scots Gaelic and Welsh.
Emma Masterson – fiddle
Steaph Chaimbeul – Clarsach harp
Awen Blandford – cello
Emma, Awen and Steaph are currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, where they performed last November as support for Patsy Reid. Le Chéile also enjoyed playing in Glasgow as part of the 2016 Celtic Connections festival.
TAD DAVIDSON (Tenor) and WYN CHAN (Piano) are second year undergraduates at the Royal Northern College of Music. They met whilst studying at Chetham’s School of Music and quickly became friends. For their debut recital together they will perform a programme of songs with a warm and summery theme.
Wyn has played in concerts across the country and was also the winner of the Chetham’s Concerto Competition (2013) and, more recently, the RNCM’s Beethoven Prize in 2015.
Tad has sung with the Hallé choir and the Gabrielli consort and has performed in the chorus for the RNCM’s productions of Street Scene and Così Fan Tutte.
