“When I was approached by Electrik to have an exhibition my initial thought was to exhibit work that was based around music, especially because of the owners (Luke & Justin – The Unabombers) music/DJ background. I also remembered that when Electrik first opened, they would have guest chefs takeover the kitchen, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to collaborate with the Hip Hop Chip Shop too, with them taking over the Electrik’s kitchen on the preview night (19 May) and serving their own brand of fish and chips.
Over the past few years I’ve started to make a name for myself creating caricatures and portraits of various celebrities for magazines and TV with clients including BBC, GQ, New Yorker plus a Grammy nomination for work I did with the White Stripes… but being a lover of Hip Hop, I have also produced a few illustrations of Hip Hop legends, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to display them in one place and it makes more sense to have the Hip Hop Chip Shop do the food! The exhibition will consist of self-initiated illustrations of Hip Hop icons past and present plus a few of the ones that have been commissioned by magazines I’ve worked for… ranging from Ice-T to Kanye and the like.”in category art
