10 CAF events for the young ones…

Check out Marketing Assistant, Margaret Powell’s, top 10 events for kids as part of the festival…

1. The Magnificent Captain Moth is a kid-friendly play by Anthony Morgan and is part of our cutting-edge Theatre Exterior project. Superhero, Captain Moth must learn to face his fears in this story about the importance of being open about our problems. (Wednesday 25 May at The Lloyds)

2. Introduce your family to the old storytelling art form, ‘the crankie’. With intricate illustrations, a crankie theatre is hand cranked while the story is told, displaying the images of the story on hand-drawn scrolls as the viewing ‘screen’. As the Crow Flies is an extraordinary tale your family won’t want to miss. (Saturday 21 May at Mono)

 3. Art in the Park is a free event at Beech Road Park in cooperation with The Friends of Beech Road Park and Community Arts. Creative and fun activities will be abounding including sidewalk chalking and clay modelling. (Saturday 21 May at Beech Road Park)

4.      Introduce your kids to Shakespeare’s work with Julius Caesar, put on by the Primary Arts Outreach Team at Chorlton High School and Year 5 students form Manchester primary schools. 351 children are involved in what is sure to be a powerful production! (Monday 23 May & Tuesday 24 May at Blue Box Theatre)

 5.      Yorkshire Academy of Film & Television Acting are putting on a special, free session: Acting for Screen: Teenage Class. All levels of acting are welcome; even if your teen is just looking to build self-confidence, this event is for them! (Tuesday 24 May at Chorlton High School)

6.     Chat:SS is made up of students from year 7-10 who have worked together to bring you a powerful theatre piece for the 8th year in row. These students unveil their contagious passion for live dance and drama… bring your kids along to absorb it all in! (Thursday 26 May at Blue Box Theatre)

 7.      Comedy Sportz is a team improv battle with on-the-spot created scenes and songs, all from audience suggestions! This is the perfect comedy event for your family to attend together, while getting to feel involved in the action on stage. (Sunday 22 May at South West Manchester Cricket Club)

 8.       Introduction to Classical Guitar with guitar wiz, Ed Billingham, is perfect for young adults giving guitar a go for the first time. This free class will introduce basic techniques and help participants tap into their own musical creativity. (Tuesday 24 May at Chorlton Central Church)

 9.      Manchester Young Musicians Family Showcase will surely inspire a love for music in your kids! These passionate children performers engage the audience in unique ways with singing, instruments and rhythmic movement. (Saturday 21 May at The Edge Theatre and Arts Centre)

10.The climax of the exciting Chorlton Young Musician of the Year contest will showcase the final chance for these young participants to claim the coveted title. (Wednesday 25 May at Blue Box Theatre)
